God Loves The Charlie Brown In All Of Us

Posted by Father Todd Wetzel on

I love the PEANUTS comic strip where Charlie Brown is busy building a birdhouse. Lucy comes by and asks, "How's the birdhouse coming along, Charlie Brown?" Charlie replies, "Well, I'm a lousy carpenter. I can't nail straight. I can't saw straight and I alway split the wood. I'm nervous. I lack confidence. I'm stupid. I have poor taste and absolutely no sense of design... so all things considered, it's coming along okay."

Anybody out there who can't identify with Charlie Brown? How's your life coming along? Out of World War II came an acronym, SNAFU, which more than I care to admit seems to sum up my life, "Situation normal all fouled up!" Thank God my life is not entirely dependent on how well I do or don't do things.

Ephesians 2:8 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." A modern translation for the word "saved" is "approved." Thank God. Building a perfect birdhouse is not required for my life to count. Neither is perfect behaviour.

Let up on yourself. You don't have to be perfect. God loves the needy. Take some time out and join with other Charlie Browns in church this Sunday. With His help, things have a way of working out.
