Bishops Visit & Other News

The Texas heat has not slowed St. Paul’s down. In fact, we’re ramping up! Not only did we have good food and fellowship at last Sunday’s Vestry lunch, over the last couple weeks, we’ve seen some exciting changes in the way we do our Sunday liturgy. To cover the changes, and as a refresher, and we’re planning on having a training session for Acolytes and Chalice bearers on August 12th from 9:30 – 10:15. It’s great to see the energy that St. Paul’s has to make our worship of Jesus the most honoring that we can. If you’re interested in getting involved in this, please come on down to the training session.

In other news, Our Bishop, George Sumner, has recently returned from the General Convention of The Episcopal Church. Since the Convention made some changes that may effect some of the parishes in our Diocese, Bishop George called the clergy together for time of prayer and discussion. He has now begun to meet with each Vestry throughout the Diocese, and met with St. Paul’s Vestry last Saturday night. Since there are no changes from Convention that will meaningfully influence us, we were able to have a more casual time of dinner and discussion. When Bishop George and I had lunch this week, we had a good discussion about St. Paul’s recent past and our hopes for future growth and ministry.

Don’t forget that this week we’re having our tri-church VBS right here at St. Paul’s. Thursday and Friday VBS begins at 5:00 for dinner and ends at about 8:00, and Saturday begins with snacks at 9:00, and ends with a hamburger lunch at noon. I’m looking forward to seeing y’all there – and on Sunday!

God’s peace,

The Rev. Dr. Nick Funk
